Class Tourism Ad

tourism ad completed.jpg

This is a tourism ad that we made together as a class for the city of Ottawa. It was an introduction to help us create our own tourism ad. The way the class created this image was by downloading several stock images, as well as a photo of the Parliament. We first place embedded a photo of a forest, and created a clipping mask with a custom leaf shape. Next, we put that over a photo of the parliament. A custom gradient was placed onto the Parliament photo , and a blending mode was added on. For the logo of Ottawa, I used the colour range tool to eliminate the white from the photo, leaving only the logo. Finally, the circle marquee tool was used to crop our three stock images of people, and we aligned them on the side, giving each one an identical white stroke. This is how the ad was created. I added the text in the upper left corner myself.

My Tourism Ad

This is my tourism ad for the city of Windsor, created in Photoshop. The way I created this advertisement was by first filling in my background layer with a colour, and the colour I choose was green. I then created a text box and wrote the slogan of my ad. I put a clipping mask onto my text layer, and the photo behind the text is a picture of a tree that I took, although it is not noticeable, as the mask was intended to give the text layer a bit of texture. Next, I decided that I would use a technique that I learned in class. I downloaded photos of central places in Windsor, such as the Windsor Aquatic Centre, and Caesars casino, and I cropped these photos with the ellipse marquee tool, and added a stroke around them to give them definition. I did this to highlight all the interesting places in Windsor. As for the small photos in the corners, those were photos that I took for the autumn shooting assignment, and I used the quick selection tool on them to crop them to put in my ad. The same thing was done to the City of Windsor logo. The two final steps that I had to do were to add a stroke around the overall product and make a design using custom shapes. I added the thick stroke as I wanted the green background to stand out more. For the custom shapes, I felt that I needed something to fill the middle of my ad, as it was empty, so I found an arrow shape using the shape tool and used a couple of them to make a large arrow-like shape, that could represent the path to the destination of Windsor. I positioned this arrow the way I liked it, then lowered the opacity to make it blend in with the background. This is how my ad was created.
